|
Deep Water Well project in Swaziland | |
The Church of the Good Shepherd supports the local community with the use of our facilities for various community organizations. The grieving support group from Hospice uses the building once a month at no charge, since a member of our congregation is involved in Hospice. Chapter EL P.E.O. uses our building for a nominal charge several times a year.
Good Shepherd hosts a very successful annual bazaar, benefit concerts and recitals with the proceeds going to various charitable organizations.
Children third grade and older participated in the Kids Against Hunger project on June 3, 2007. The children worked with adults to package 3600 ready-to-prepare dried meals to be shipped to Tanzania.
All of our children are actively involved in our local food pantry. Children of all ages present the food pantry collection bin at the altar before it is taken to the Upper Des Moines Opportunity Food Pantry, with deliveries several times a year. They have also collected money for Hope Ministries in Des Moines, IA (an organization which aids the homeless), and have supported the Heifer Project and CROP Walk.
