Altar Guild

The work of the Altar Guild goes on quietly behind the scenes; it is a special ministry whose mission is to care for everything that relates to the Altar. In addition, they shoulder a wide range of other responsibilities: making or purchasing vestments and linens; managing flower monies and orders, replenishing the supply of bread, wine and candles; advising about memorial gifts for use in the sanctuary and participating in special rites as the stripping of the altar on Maundy Thursday and assembling the memorial altar candles for All Saints' Sunday.  Contact Judy at tommymacrph@yahoo.com for more information.

Bible Study

Adult Bible Study at Good Shepherd is relaxed and convenient.  Groups meet on Wednesdays or Thursdays in the evening, depending on participants’ schedules.  Recently Bible Study has been held at the “home” of its senior members, Southfield Wellness Center, for their convenience.  We study Synthesis, which follows the Sunday lectionary, usually read the gospel lesson, and have some pretty frank talk about the presence of God in our midst.  We’ve been known to take sides with “the Big Guy, Jesus our teacher, and the Holy Spirit.”  It’s fun to listen to the Sunday sermon and see if we came up with “professional insights” before we heard them from the “professional”.  It always deepens the Sunday morning worship service.  We’ve been known to drink a little wine and talk a little politics too.  Contact Deb at dleksell@hamiltoncounty.org for more information.

Lay Readers

Lay Readers at Good Shepherd participate in the Processional, read the Psalm and the Prayers of the People, administer the chalice in Holy Communion, and assist in various other ways as directed by the priest.  In the absence of a Lector, the Lay Reader may also read the appointed scripture lessons.  Instruction is provided for those wishing to serve Good Shepherd in this capacity, and a license will then be issued by the Diocese.  Contact Fr. Richard at stmarks50501@frontiernet.net for more information.

Lectors

Lectors are those people who volunteer to read the scripture lessons appointed for each service.  Lectionary bulletin inserts are mailed by the parish secretary to those scheduled to be Lectors prior to the weekly services.  Older youth are also welcome to be Lectors.  Contact Joan at haber@mchsi.com for more information.

Greeters

Our Greeters welcome people to worship, distribute the worship bulletins, assist with seating if needed, periodically check on the nursery, and bring the children back from the nursery into the sanctuary in time for the Lord's Prayer and Holy Communion.  Contact Joan at haber@mchsi.com for more information.

Activities & Organizations

The "Good Shepherd Saints" is a group which exists to provide outreach and financial support to many various charitable organizations within and beyond the community of Webster City.  This all-inclusive group has evolved from the previously known women's organization "St. Margaret's Guild," which was in existence for several decades, and was instrumental in the internal operations of the parish in addition to outreach.  Some of the many charities which the Good Shepherd Saints support are:

The Church of the Good Shepherd supports the local community with the use of our facilities for various community organizations.  The grieving support group from Hospice uses the building once a month at no charge, since a member of our congregation is involved in Hospice.  Chapter EL P.E.O. uses our building for a nominal charge several times a year.

Good Shepherd hosts a very successful annual bazaar, benefit concerts and recitals with the proceeds  going to various charitable organizations.
